I started going to the gym in September 2011. I had NO idea what I was doing! It took about 4-5 months of learning from others and researching before I started seeing any results. But after being at the gym for a few months, I gained a healthy appetite as well as some new muscles and by December I was at 140lbs. I hired a coach in July to help bring me the rest of the way to a competitive stage. I have been going by her meal plans (eating clean with required cheat meals) and her workout plans since July. I am currently 3.5 weeks out of competition. I have gained an unreal amount of muscle and leaned out majority of my fat. Today I am weighing 125lbs.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Working Out at Home

Holy Grail Body Transformation Program!
A hectic work schedule and family demands may leave you with no time to hit the gym. However, lack of gym time should not lead you to live an indolent lifestyle because you can still maintain your fitness and attain good health by exercising at home regularly. Although home exercises hardly compare to gym sessions supervised by a fitness trainer, they can still be very useful in regards to your personal fitness. If you are contemplating working out at home, consider the following pros and cons.

Pros

Flexibility
In general, home workout programs are often flexible. As such, you can plan your training sessions depending on your own timetable and personal commitments. Because the workout program will revolve around your lifestyle, it is likely to be fun. Moreover, you can also design the workout program to suit your fitness goals accordingly. This enables you to concentrate on techniques and equipment that will help you to achieve your fitness objectives.

Workout Duration
Training at home would allow you to regulate your own workout sessions accordingly. In contrast, most commercial gyms offer timed sessions to their clients. They do that so that they can achieve their profit margins. Some training programs such as Pilates and Yoga also require strict timing for the best results. People with hectic commitments may find it difficult to

Cardio Between Sets?

Most of the people that are working out remain passive in the resting period between sets, whether we are talking about 30 seconds or 5 minutes. Scientists from Australia, Malaysia and New Zeeland launched the theory that light aerobic activity between sets could stimulate muscle hypertrophy. This kind of activity will accelerate your metabolism and increase the production of hormones such as the IGF-1 and the growth hormone, both of them being responsible for muscle growth. Besides this, aerobic exercises are sending nervous and mechanic stimulus to the muscles. For the moment this idea is only a speculation, but it relies on solid scientific arguments (Strength & Conditioning Journal, vol. 34, 8-15, 2012).

And what are you doing between sets? Are you just sitting down and resting or are you spending these small breaks in an active way? Tell us your opinions in the comments area below!

Seth Feroce Talks about Healthy Fats and When to Eat Them

Seth Feroce, an IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, was recently asked by a reader of Muscular Development when is the right time of the day to consume the healthy fats? He replied that it usually depends on the type of workout you do and on your general state of mind and body. He says that he prefers to eat most of his fats before the workout. This is because he trains in the afternoon and this kind of meal helps him reduce hunger throughout the entire day. When he is on the bulking phase, the time of the year when he gains muscle and body mass, he increases the healthy fats to 40-60 grams/day.

If you are training in the evening, then you should have three meals before the workout and one meal after, and add some extra fats to the first meals of the day. This way you consume most of the fats before the workout and only a smaller quantity after, just to help you recover. As for the sources of healthy fats, Seth likes olive oil, natural peanut butter and whole eggs with Omega 3. He usually adds the olive oil to the chicken and rice, he eats the peanut butter straight from the jar and consumes the eggs on the first and the last meal of the day.

To conclude and to make things more simple just eat the healthy fats on the first meal of the day, on the pre-workout meal and on the last meal of the day!
